FOUND magazine- all the way!

I almost love this magazines' design as much as i love the magazine itself. i found it on this website, and of course i had to buy it. It's a collection of found items sent in by the general public and put together by Davy Rothbart. I think it's Davy that compiled the cover, but it's not specified.. The design (and entire magazine) is done in a very DIY style, and Davy has scanned in a heap of grass, paper, labels and photos to make this collage. Very simple but very suited to the idea of the magazine, to show us glimpses of other peoples lives on little scraps of paper, no copyrights, no proffesional works, just finds.
I particularly like the logo, at the top of the cover, and the circus style typography used. It's very bold, and although its a classic font, it is printed in a very street/grunge style. This matches the awesome photograph featured too!
LOVE the idea behind this project, and i encourage you to check out the website.

  1. That's a really cool idea. I've seen a similar idea where it was found notes. Things people had stumbled across like an old shopping list scrunched up and thrown in a trolley, love notes, memos etc. just in the street. The cover definitely suits the theme of the magazine, nice spot :)

  2. Well done on finding this! I love how the style reflects what the magazine is about. The cover doesn't look like a typical magazine cover because of its unique grungy look about it. I love how they have conveyed this grungy street style by scanning bits and pieces in and putting them together. I have found that scanning in bits and pieces is a great way to experiment with creating certain designs. For example, if you want to create an old look to a piece of work try putting tea all over a piece of paper and then scrunch it up. Scan it into the computer and use it as a background or texture on something. Experimenting with design is heaps of fun!

  3. There is so much we don't think about when it comes to design and photoshop..what a great idea for the front of a magazine..certainly reflects what they are about. I just have to mention that I find your font quite hard to read on your blog ..anyone have the same problem? Sorry, old age and all!!!
